BBK Worldwide

Rob Laurens

An exacting wordsmith with a passion for patient recruitment, Rob leads the copywriting side of BBK Worldwide's creative team, including the crucial cultural adaptation process for global patient recruitment materials.

In this role he heads a team of copywriters, applying his strategic and creative expertise to distill clients' often complex positioning and messages into compelling copy that informs and encourages patients and physicians to take part in clinical studies. Further, he ensures that these messages are transformed into culturally sensitive and appropriate copy for each country in which a multinational clinical trial is taking place. As a result, clients are assured that their ads, direct mail, brochures and Web content are delivering the most effective message to potential study participants, optimizing patient enrollment success.

With more than 13 years of experience in patient recruitment in all therapeutic areas, Rob has held several prior positions at BBK. As a senior strategist, he has helped to develop the competency of the firm's Global Alliance members, a network of communications agencies with patient recruitment expertise in different parts of the world. He also was instrumental in the evolution of TCN e-Systems, the e-recruitment company established by BBK to streamline patient recruitment through Web-based product suites. He continues to contribute to new business development and customer relations, protocol analysis, strategic briefs, and focus groups.

Rob also has contributed significantly to the clinical trials industry. He was a key player in defining the distinction between patients and healthcare consumers – coining the phrase "consumers shop; patients make decisions" and helped to spearhead the now industry-wide standard of referring to study participants as patients rather than subjects. He has authored articles on these topics in industry trade publications.

Rob holds a bachelor's degree in English from Oberlin College. Outside of BBK, he is an award-winning songwriter who actively records and performs throughout the Northeast.
